Starting off a new year with a goal can help one better oneself. Typically having a goal can help one not to procrastinate and strive toward the end result. Several students at Chaminade have set up some goals for the coming semester and/or year.
Sean Blanco, a freshman at Chaminade University, wants to focus on school next semester. Since he finally got into the college groove, he does not want to procrastinate on his assignments for his classes. Blanco feels that it is more important to now get his assignment done early as possible. This semester, he waited too long to do his assignments and became overwhelmed. Therefore, next semester he is planning to organize his time better so he will not became stressed out at the end.
Next semester Emirose Anitok, a sophomore at Chaminade University, wants to be more active by being involved with school and in her community. Therefore, she believes that she will be motivated to do service learning or become involved with clubs or civic organizations. Overall, she wants to strive to do better academically and physically because it is important for her in life. So she is also thinking about joining a gym for fitness and dedicating more time to studying for academics.
“It is very important that we have next semester’s and New Year’s resolutions,” Anitok said. “It gives us ‘hope’ to always have a fresh start.”
Yui Fujita, a student at Kapiolani Community College, wants to try something different next semester. She is looking into sky driving. Even though she feels it is important to focus on academics she feels that it is just important to have fun. Next year, she is planning to add more fun and not getting over work from school.
“I always wanted to go sky diving,” Fujita said. “However, this semester I was busy with school, therefore I did not get a chance to go.”
Lindsey Mountain, a senior at Chaminade University, is working toward to graduate. Mountain also wants to have a fantastic graduation week with her parents and future in-laws. Especially, since she is also getting married that week.
Mountain’s main goal for next year is to begin her new life with her husband and start paying off her college debt. She believes that when she gets out of college the economy will still be doing poorly. Therefore, all she expects from herself is to get a good start on her life. In order to get everything accomplished, Mountain decided to find a part-time job for next semester, so she can start saving up money. After graduating, she wants to find a full-time job in order to put her communication degree in to use.
“It is very important to have a New Year's resolution or two because it makes you take a step back from your life and see things you want to improve and how you would like to improve them,” Mountain said.
