What’s Your Style?

Miye Kasadate, Staff Writer

“Fashions fade, style is eternal.”
—Yves Saint Laurent

This month, What’s Your Style takes a look at what I think can be described as examples of Local Trend Setter, Neon Cool, Ghetto Chic, and Punk Hip. What do they all have in common? Personality and attitude!

Blake Suenishi

St. Louis Heights, Hawaii
Junior, Communications

Style Description: “Original, Local, and Fun.”

Inspiration: “My two inspirations would have to be Fabolous, the rapper, and Bobby Filipino. Fabolous is my role model as far as style. So I look up to him. And Bobby Filipino is my older brother.

Why that style? “It’s local and fun. It’s fun to create your own self everyday. It makes me unique.”

Signature piece that defines your style: “I have three signature pieces: my hats, my watch, and my necklace. I usually wear hats by Fitted because they’re something different from your ordinary hairstyle. I wear my G-Shock watch everyday and my parents gave it to me. My necklace is really special to me because my grandpa gave it to me before he passed away.

Top three stores: Fitted, Blue Hawaii Surf, Vans

Chelsi Walls

Riverbank, California

Style Description: “Bright, Comfortable, and Fun.”

Inspiration: “My mom. She always just taught me to dress the way I feel.”

Why that style? “It puts me in a good mood. I like to always dress in bright colors because it always makes me happy.”

Signature piece that defines your style: “My sunglasses. They are just a fun accessory. They go with everything. Even if you have a bad outfit, you can wear it and it makes you look cool.

Daniel Helsham

Ili Ili, American Samoa
Senior, Communications, Broadcast Journalism

Style Description: “Ever-changing, Mixed, and Supah!”

Inspiration: “My inspiration is whatever is pleasing to the eye. I tend to mix and match things. I wear whatever looks good to me.”

Why that style? “It reflects me as a person. Depending on how I feel, I’ll dress a certain way. Style is a way of life for me. Style is the unspoken communication. It’s the first thing people notice before you say hi or hello.”

Signature piece that defines your style: “My earrings and my shoes. I like my piercings. I have seven right now and I used to have nine. And I like good, comfortable shoes.”

Top three stores: Ecko, Hot Topic, Lids

Shayna Egloria

Mililani, Hawaii
Sophomore, Criminal Justice

Style Description: “Different, Quirky, and Unique.”

Inspiration: “I don’t like to follow the trend.”

Why that style? “I like to be original and I don’t like to be a follower. I’m rebellious. I don’t like to follow the norm.”

Signature piece that defines your style: “My tattoo that says ‘Relentless.’ It’s so me.”
