¡Club Latino Entra Con Fuerza!

Angel Orozco, Staff Writer

One of the newest clubs on campus this semester is La Familia Spanish Club, which was founded by club presidents freshman Anaid Tolentino and sophomore Dzidzielia Trevino.

“I wanted to start the club last spring semester, especially after I saw spring Extravaganza,” said Trevino.  “I didn’t see much culture other than the usual Micro/Polynesian culture.”

A typical Spanish club meeting consists of a brief slideshow of a Latin country followed by a new dance style, usually that of the aforementioned country.

“We wanted to share and bring awareness to everybody,” says co-president Tolentino.  “Not just the language but food and dance as well.”

Though this club is new, they have big plans for this semester.  Not only will they be participating in this spring’s Extravaganza on April 16, but they plan to hold a Spanish Mass on April 25 and celebrate El Día de los Niños on May 1.

For those interested joining the club or participating in any of the events planned, contact Dzidziela at (956) 693-7651 or the club’s Facebook page, La Familia Spanish Club.
