Everybody expresses their personality and character through their style. Many get inspiration for their style from life experiences.
In this piece for “What’s Your Style?” I went on a hunt for the most funkiest, unique and interesting styles on Chaminade Campus. These four people who are featured in this issue definitely make statements when they come to school. To some people they may seem weird or out there, but in this style issue they are given two thumbs up for their style because it’s out of the ordinary and not the usual wear that many would dare to wear!
Anatol Zitzewitz

Why that style? “I like it for comfort and I like to stick out a little bit. And I like to dress up sometimes, but sometimes I just like to be comfortable.”

Anna Dahlia Vaagensmith

Sophomore, Iowa
Style Description: In’Sync
Inspiration: “My roommate Jaelyssa [Tomada], she gives me all my inspirations for life. [Seriously though] I guess I kind of just stumble out of bed and like whatever mood I’m in; I just pick a shirt and something to go with it. I use a lot of my grandmother’s clothes actually.”
Why that style? “It makes dressing fun instead of just putting on gym shorts and tank tops… It makes the morning more interesting. ”
Signature piece that defines your style: “My favorite accessory is like this humongous owl necklace that my grandma used to wear and it’s just really big and gaudy and it just seems silly that such a prestigious woman as my grandmother wore it back in her day.”
Top three shops: Urban Outfitters, any thrift stores, and H&M
Kahae Maikai-Iakopo

Senior, California and Kalihi, Hawaii
Style Description: Wake Up and Go!
Inspiration: “Celebrities, and I [also] see a lot of Japanese people at my job and I see how they dress so I use that with the stuff I see on TV and the stuff at my house. Sometimes I just put stuff together and it just looks the way it looks.”
Why that style? “It’s just easier for me ’cause I work so much. I’m like on a very busy schedule so I just wear what I can find and I just go. That’s how it is; it’s just really fast-paced for me so I’m just like ‘Find this, put this on, it matches and go! I have to have my shoes matching — that’s the one thing that I think about, my shoes.”
Signature piece that defines your style: “Well it used to be my Samoan bracelet, but it broke. So, I guess my glasses.”
Top three shops: Ross, Old Navy, and Pacsun
Jordan Wong

Junior, Honolulu, Hawaii
Style Description: Retro, Urban, Surf, Skate, Punk
Inspiration: “Nobody really, I just like to look at surf magazines. Whatever other people don’t want to wear, I wanna wear.”
Why that style? “Lifestyle and there are so many different styles out there that I just don’t like to dress like everybody else I guess, so I try to just switch it out. [Such as] wearing brands that other people don’t like to wear, none of this Abercrombie and Hollister stuff.”
Signature piece that defines your style: “A cross from Na Hoku, a local jewelry store, I’m family friends with (the owner) and it was made especially for me and there is a nice little diamond in it, not only girls could have diamonds.”
Top three stores: Ross, Local Motion, and Vans. (“I really don’t shop I just get it for free from some sponsors for surfing.”)
