A New Start for Men’s Soccer

Unless you’re part of the basketball or volleyball program, other sports at Chaminade don’t get as much recognition — including the Men’s Soccer team. Chaminade’s soccer program is not known for their wins, but rather for their upsetting losses. However, this year looks to be different.

Women’s V-ball: New Year, New Coach

The 2009 Chaminade women’s volleyball season started with a lot of uncertainty because of fresh faces within the program, but team members express optimism about the changes. The biggest change is that the Swords hired a new interim head coach, Nahaku Brown, to replace Glennie Adams after she accepted a position as one of the assistant athletic directors at Kamehameha Schools’ Kapalama campus.

Chaminade’s Maui Invitational Recognized Nationally

On Dec. 23, 1982, the “biggest upset in College basketball history” took place changing Chaminade University of Honolulu forever. That’s when the Chaminade Silverswords defeated the No. 1 team and national power, the University of Virginia Cavaliers. The outcome of the game was Chaminade 77, Virginia 72.

Men’s Golf Gets New Coach, Equipment

The Chaminade golf team now has an advantage to beat the competition this year. They now have access to top-of-the-line equipment and clothing, more players, and better coaching. Compared to other years, the Chaminade golf team never had a real chance at competing.

A Rising Star at Chaminade

Only 22, fifth year senior Layne Morita is already an accomplished athlete with a record of golf tournament successes. Given his proven luck on the links, he may well be headed for a professional career. What has contributed to Morita’s success is that he practices daily, works on the right things, makes an effort to get his swing flaws fixed, and believes in himself and in God.
