Did you know that Chaminade University has a recycling program?
The program is managed by three student workers under the supervision of Brother Tom Payne and in cooperation with Honolulu Recovery.
The university has invested in this program while CUH Administration has helped fund the project as well. Thanks to the Student Body Association and Environmental Studies, the school will be receiving more professional-looking recycling bins to be dispersed around campus.
Also, the program has expanded off campus by adding recycling bins to Iolani Terrace and 7th Street dorms. The program is working with the environmental club in this area.
The campus community has been supportive in assisting recycling efforts including students and faculty putting recyclables in the specified containers, to the Pohaku and Malia Marinanist Community contributing vehicles to help the workers.
“I want to say thank you to the university for being so supportive, and any more will be appreciated,” said Payne.
Along with the usual recyclables (i.e., HI-5 plastic, HI-5 aluminum, HI-5 glass) the program collects and recycles milk cartons, office paper and other glass. A complete list can be seen posted around campus.
Please continue putting your items in the bins. If you would like to volunteer or make a contribution to the program, you can contact Bro. Tom for more information at 735-4811 or email thomas.payne@chaminade.edu.
