Dear Silversword staff:
I want to congratulate you all on a terrific semester and a quality publication that all of Chaminade can be proud of. At the beginning of the fall semester, it was difficult to imagine that you would create four separate online editions of the newspaper, but you pulled it off with style.
It was not easy to end the print version of the Silversword and create an online version. But your creativity, passion and commitment made it all possible.
I am especially proud that this is your newspaper, as opposed to one controlled by instructors, faculty and staff. You made the calls on what to run -- and what not to run -- and took the praise or blame that came with those decisions. This honors the collegiate learning experience that Chaminade stands for.
I welcome other Chaminade students to join the Silversword staff next year, and invite other students, faculty and staff to make suggestions on how the newspaper staff can improve the product. It will be a tough act to follow, but I am certain the the univeristy has the talent to draw on.
Lastly, thanks to Dr. Cliff Bieberly for asking me to help out this semester; to Mark Inouye, who created the online template and guided the production for the first two issues; and to Rusty Kent, who helped the paper secure its permanent domain name, cuhnews.com, and who has handled the production duties for the last two editions. I believe I can speak for the student staff in saying they could not have produced the newspaper without all your assistance and advice.
